I pay a LOT of money for health insurance with a prescription benefit. My daughter is sick, needed some medicine so I went to the pharmacy after her doc had called it in.
They were 60 dollars! Ack. I'd not bugeted for such extravagance. Eye drops and a bottle of cough medicine.
On the up and up... cough medicine is coming in very interesting shades nowadays. I've seen the red, pink, purple, clear, and yellow even. But this... this is new. Her last bottle was a greenish blue. The liquid I mean. I teased her and called it space goo.
"You ready for your space goo now?" I'd say, grinning with the spoon in my hand. She'd laugh nervously then look worried and say, "You're just kidding, right Mama?" Hahahaha. I'd say "I don't know... looks pretty interstellar to me, Mija."
I opened this new, more expensive model today. It's darker blue. (More food coloring for your money!) It's similar, but more opaque. Darker, thicker. At first I said, "Oh boy, Mija! Space goo!" she started to say what I just then noticed aloud myself as I poured it, "I don't think this is space goo."
"Yeah, it's darker," she said. I poured it thickly into the 1/2 teaspoon.
"You know what I think this is?" I said as I held it up to my eyelevel to peer questioningly at it.
"What?" she said with whispered eagerness. "I think it's.... Smurf juice!"
"Yeah! Smurf juice. I bet it is too."
"I wonder how many smurfs they had to juice to get this one bottle. Like 64, you think?"
"I bet 92."
"Wow. Smurfs don't make a lot of juice then," I said as I let her lick the last of it out of the spoon. She ran off to get ready for bed. I felt like saying, "You're just kidding, right Mija?"
