How Fun!

I'm in the jewelry business in addition to being a school teacher. I'm so pumped because I have my first show with a whole room full of black women.

I am blessed to have met a lady named Krystle and she's invited me to show the jewelry at a huge party. I may be the only white girl in the room! I'm very excited at expanding my social circle; people just stay segregated and it really sucks.

She's been so much fun already in just planning it. I teach speech communication and one point taught is credibility. Being a white girl, I worried about my credibility as a salesperson here. Who am I to say what's "fly"? (Using the word to illustrate my point: I don't naturally use that word.) So I recruited one of my students, Cedric, to help me know what to expect and how to sell to this crowd.

He told me not to dress up, first. Usually, these parties involve a bunch of sorta-quiet women calmly looking at the jewelry and ooohing and ahhing, bedecked in heels with matching purses. Yeah. It's fun too -- I love what I do -- but its not the same culture, you know? Cedric says I need to just be as relaxed as possible... chilled. I can do chilled. He contends I'm the exact opposite of chilled; we'll see.

Anyway, when I left the coaching time today, she said, "I'm so glad I met you! You've been such a blessing to me!" I was so glad. I told her she's the one who's been a blessing to me.

I'll write about how it goes. I do know this will fun and unlike any of my other parties...
