Surgery

Just thinking about having surgery. I could live my life without having it, but do I want to?

Yes, it would improve the quality of my life. But every time under the knife is a chance. And oi vei, it just is so disturbing, the actual thought of it all.

Thank God for modern medicine, but I'm having the hardest time with this. Insurance will pay for it as it's a health deal... yowsers. But I'm just putting it off. If I did it and got it over with, I'd feel better.

Nothing to do about it for now... it would have to wait for summer anyway I suppose.

Sounds to me like your wanting to do it but understandable scared. If you'd have to wait until summer for the surgery you could make the appointment now and spend the time coming to terms with your fears. Or not, its your body, it's your choice.

Man... that sounds like good advice, getting an appointment now and walking through it.

I'd be more specific about the surgery, but since I was raised a "lady" in the South, it's always difficult to talk about such things to anyone. This is part of why the surgery bothers me so badly. Shyness I suppose! (And I'm not a shy person!!!!)

I am a surgeon at heart. I am going to go into surgery to be sure. There is just something about it I love. It fascinates me.

But I totally understand the hesitation. However, I think because I have done it and am going to do it for a living I am less hesitant. My biggest advice would be to find a surgeon you really have confidence in. Someone who has a good bedside manner, someone who has a great record, and someone who has the loyalty of their staff. Talk to the surgeon's nurses, they are just about the best source you can find. They will be able to give you the best insight. Best of luck.

I think the first question a patient has to hear answered ( by trusted, reliable sources, of course) is: Is the surgery urgently needed ? Even if it were a breast implant, liposuction, nose lift or any other cosmetic surgery, the patient him/herself ,in concert with the surgeon, would know its necessity. If the answer to that question is Yes, then get it over with. Plan carefully. Choose carefully. Ask around, but get it over with. Life is filled with hurdles. This is just one of them.

Do you think the nurses at the office would feel free to talk? How would I find out about his/her record? Bedside manner is cool and all, but sometimes it has to be secondary to get the best physician. I'm talking myself into it steadily... a collegue is having the same surgery this Xmas. I'll so some investigations with that.
